1 different kinds of schools
- a place where children go to be educated: school
They're building a new school in our village. Which school did you go to? The school was founded (= started) in 1962.
- a place where particular subjects or skills are taught: school

Note: there is no the before school when you are talking about a teacher or pupil going or being there to teach or learn; the is used before school if you are talking about going there as a visitor:
