the America’s Cup [the Americas Cup] BrE NAmE
an international sailing contest, first held in 1851 and happening every three or four years. A US crew has won it every time except in 1983 when Australia won, in 1995 and 2000 when New Zealand won, and in 2003 when Switzerland won.
