the Apollo program
the Apollo program [the Apollo program] BrE NAmE
the US space programme to put people on the moon. It was begun in 1961 by President John F ↑Kennedy and achieved its aim on 20 July 1969 when Neil Armstrong and Buzz Aldrin landed on the moon during the Apollo 11 flight.
