Cochise
Cochise [Cochise] BrE NAmE
(c. 1823–74) a leader of the ↑Apache people. In 1861 he began to lead about 200 Apaches in attacks on US soldiers in ↑Arizona, but in 1871 he agreed to live with his people on a ↑reservation (= land given and protected by the US government).
