a western US state, also called the Centennial State because it became a state 100 years after the ↑Declaration of Independence. Its capital and largest city is ↑Denver. It is popular with tourists and is famous for Aspen and other towns in the ↑Rocky Mountains where people ↑ski. The state’s history includes the discovery of gold in 1858 and the cultural influences of ↑Native Americans and Mexicans.
