Lindisfarne
Lindisfarne [Lindisfarne] BrE NAmE (alsoHoly Island)
a small island off the coast of ↑Northumberland in north-east England. A ↑monastery (= Christian religious community) was established there in the 7th century, although the ruined buildings that survive are from the early ↑Norman period. It also has a 16th-century castle.
