Green Man
Green Man [Green Man] BrE NAmE noun [usu sing]
1. 1 a figure of a person that has a green light shining through it at ↑traffic lights in Britain. The green man lights up when the traffic has stopped, to show people that it is safe to cross the road.
2. 2 an image of a man surrounded by green plants, trees, etc. In Britain it is an old symbol of ↑fertility (= the ability of people to have children, trees to produce fruit and the soil to produce crops). The Green Man is a common name for a pub.
